Later Life and Death (1806-1820)

Throughout the early years of the nineteenth century, George began to experience more and more symptons of illness. His porphyria would come and go randomly causing his family and friends to become worried; Queen Charlotte didn't even want to share the same bed with George.

In 1810, at age 72, the king suffered one final porphyria attack. This one was by far the worst yet, not only that but this time it would not be going away for the remainder of his life. He spent his last decade within the palace while great British victories were happening, including Waterloo. These were left unnoticed by the king, and as the years passed he continued to grow more demented.

The King died January, 1820. Unbeknownst to him he could not have been more popular with the British people if he tried; looking at him now the people saw the young patriotic prince from sixty years earlier and not the absolute monarch some believed him to be. Even to this day the people of Great Britain see him as a wonderful king who truly cared for and loved his country.
